How to Speed Up Your Mac in 10 Minutes
Why is My Mac So Slow?
Over time, even the best Macs can start to feel sluggish. The good news? Most performance issues can be fixed in just a few minutes with some simple maintenance.
1. Restart Your Mac
It sounds simple, but when's the last time you actually restarted? Many people just close the lid. A fresh restart clears temporary files and resets system processes.
2. Free Up Storage Space
Click the Apple menu → About This Mac → Storage to see what's eating up space. Common culprits:
- Old iOS backups
- Cached files
- Large downloads you forgot about
- Duplicate photos
3. Reduce Startup Items
Go to System Settings → General → Login Items. Remove apps you don't need launching at startup.
4. Check Activity Monitor
Open Activity Monitor (in Applications → Utilities) to see what's using your CPU and memory. You might find a runaway process eating up resources.
5. Clean Up Your Browser
Too many extensions and tabs can slow everything down. Try:
- Closing unused tabs
- Removing extensions you don't use
- Clearing browser cache
